About the project

In 1994 Central Telegraph began the implementation and at the end of 1995 put in commercial operation a cellular data transfer network connected to public transport networks working in X.25.

The network is created on the basis of Packnet network technology by British company Racal (Vodafone) allowing to:

• Exchange short messages with mobile and fixed objects;
• Organize access to various telecommunication networks (e.g. Telex);
• Send signals of security, fire alarm, telemetric and other systems

Today in the framework of Radiotel project following regional networks operate under unified management: Moscow and the nearest Moscow districts, St.-Petersburg and Leningrad region, Nizhni Novgorod and Magnitogorsk. In the nearest future the regional network will it will be rolled out in Ekaterinburg.

Radiotel Network

Radiotel Network is based on the principle of cellular location of base stations and distribution of frequencies. In accordance with this principle a territory is divided to regions (cells), and a base station is located in the center of each region. Its amplitude varies from 10 to 30 km, depending on the lie of the ground. Aggregate of the cells at certain territory makes a service zone of the radio package network.

Base stations are connected to each other by a ground network via special switching equipment - Package Switching Center - which is a node of public transfer network.

Radio Package Assemblers-Dissemblers (R-PAD) are used as subscriber terminals. They play the role of a connecting module between client's terminal equipment (computer, ATM, security or other sensor or dispatcher's module).

All equipment is certified.

• Quick organization of communication with hard-to-reach regions, regions with low population density or bad condition of available cable access networks. Customer's communication system can be rolled out during 3 days.

Services of Radiotel Network

A lot of applications has been developed on the basis of radio package short message network, they are used by the largest banks and processing companies, reservation and air ticket selling systems, emergency services, etc.

Typical areas of application of Radiotel Network services:

• Connection of ATMs and POS-terminals;


• Connection of terminals of toto and lottery agencies;


• Connection of terminals of ticket selling agencies;


• Connection of fire protection and security alarm systems;


• Organization of dispatching systems of municipal heating, water, power, gas facilities;


• Organization of visual dispatching systems and car, ship, construction machine searching systems;
  


• Organization of mobile or temporary trade and service points at congresses, exhibitions, conferences, public festivals., etc.;
  
• Access to X.25, to paging services, telex and other data transfer networks, and maintenance expenses.
